How you help | Our volunteers are invaluable in caring for the horses and ponies and we couldn’t maintain the sanctuary without them. A volunteer’s primary tasks consist of putting out horses and hay in the morning, and cleaning the animals’ living areas- paddocks and stalls. This means shoveling and scooping lots of poop, scrubbing water buckets and refilling them in the stalls and paddocks, cleaning feed buckets, sweeping areas, replacing bedding, and setting up the stalls for the animals for the evening. |

About us | Mills River Rescue and Sanctuary is a farm dedicated to rescuing animals in need of rescue or sanctuary. Our rescue started back when owner Patti Maroney worked for another rescue and realized how much need there was for helping ponies and donkeys so she started her own rescue. In 2017 Mills River Rescue and Sanctuary became an official 501 c3 non profit rescue. From that moment on MRR has helped rescue many ponies and donkeys from locals that may have fallen on hard times, neglect or abuse and from auctions that could have ended in slaughter. Some of our rescues have severe medical conditions or are elderly so are not adoptable. We owe it to them to provide a safe place for them for the rest of their lives. |
